WELCOME TO SHIBUMI

Shibumi, founded by Robin Tanner ASLA, offers landscape architecture services, including garden design and installation, specializing in Zen Japanese Gardens in the Karensui tradition.

Eastern traditions from China, India, and Japan have long expounded the notion that the external world has an influence upon our internal world. The environment we live in, from the climate, the social landscape, the type of job we lead, and our home environment have a profound and deep influence on our consciousness.

We are increasingly bombarded with sensory input from television, Internet, mobile phones, and as a result it becomes more and more difficult to find areas of solitude and peace.   A Zen Japanese Garden is a wonderful way to create a consciousness-expanding space.  Shibumi Landscapes can help you surround yourself in an environment of tranquility and harmoniousness.  After graduating in landscape architecture, Robin studied garden making in Japan. He designed and built gardens in a unique Japanese-influenced style for decades in New Orleans, and organically built up a thriving landscape architecture practice.  Robin has also studied the inner world, in social work, psychoanalysis and in eastern meditation techniques. The result is an acture awareness of hot to design a space that evokes inner peace.
